What is STD testing?

STD testing allows you to know whether or not you have contracted sexually transmitted diseases, sexually transmitted infections, or if you have risk factors for any of them. Many times, STDs don’t cause any symptoms. You can have a sexually transmitted infection and not know it. So it’s important for everyone to take care of their sexual health by getting tested regularly.

What is a virtual care STD screening?

An assigned medical provider will evaluate your symptoms to see if they are related to sexually transmitted infections (STI) in our discreet virtual appointment, and then schedule an STD screening if needed.

FAQ

When do I get my STD results from virtual care?

You can get fast results that you can access privately through our online patient portal or Nao Medical app.

How do I get tested for an STD?

There are many ways you can get tested for STD, depending on what type of STD you’re testing for. Doctors can get samples through blood draw, finger prick, urine sample, mouth swab, genital swab, discharge swab, or sore swab. However this test has to be done in person and not virtually.

Can you self-check for STDs?

There are at-home STD tests you can use to test yourself. However, they aren’t FDA-approved as the results they generate aren’t accurate and reliable.

How do you know if you have an STD without getting tested?

Possible signs that you have an STD are:

  • White, greenish or yellowish vaginal discharge
  • Penile discharge
  • Strong odor in the genitalia
  • Itching or irritation in the private area
  • Pain during sexual intercourse
  • Painful urination

How long does it take for an STD to show up on a test?

An STD may show up on a test five days to two weeks after exposure. If you test too early, you may get a false-negative result.

What happens when an STD goes untreated?

If an STD is left untreated, whether it has symptoms or not, it may cause infertility, blindness, neurologic issues, transmission from mother to child, and birth defects (for pregnant women infected with an STD).

How long would a virtual visit appointment take?

This may vary ( depending on the medical condition) anywhere from 10-15 minutes.

How do I prepare for a virtual doctor visit?

To prepare for a virtual visit, find a quiet place in your home or office and use headphones or earbuds if necessary. It would also be helpful to have good lighting in case the doctor needs to do a physical check. Make sure to have a list of your symptoms, medical history, and any questions you may have regarding your condition.

Does my insurance cover a virtual care service?

Virtual care is more cost-effective and flexible than in-office consultations, so most insurances cover virtual care services. However, we recommend that you check with your health insurance company before booking an appointment.

Can I pay for my virtual care appointment without insurance?

If you have no insurance, we provide our services without insurance for self-pay patients, giving you the care when you need it most.

My daughter came in with stomach pain, and your doctor was able to diagnose that she probably had appendicitis. I took her to the emergency room, and she did have to have her appendix removed. Thank you so much for your help.

My visits have been fantastic both times I’ve gone. The woman at the front desk was courteous and professional, and prompt. The nurse was excellent. Same treatment as the front desk and the smoothest phlebotomist going. The doctor was great, calm, thorough, polite, and knowledgeable. I wish he were my GP. Overall? 11 out of 10.

I’ve been to Nao Medical, I think, three times, and their staff is delightful. If you are in dire pain, they take you in as soon as possible, if not sooner. The offices and exam rooms are spotless. All of the medical staff is very knowledgeable, patient, and understanding. I highly recommend it.

The staff and the doctors were all very kind and caring. I was very worried about my child’s health. I appreciate your clinic being open on Saturdays. This saved us a trip to the ER, which can be scary for a child. Thank you again!
