What is a magnesium test?

A magnesium test is a type of blood test that measures a patient’s magnesium level. This is especially helpful in diagnosing certain medical conditions.

About our urgent care magnesium tests

Magnesium is an essential mineral that plays a huge role in energy production, nerve function, muscle contraction, and bone strength. The body regulates how much magnesium is absorbed and excreted to maintain normal levels. Nao Medical offers magnesium testing in all our clinics in the NYC area.

About our urgent care service

With Nao Medical's urgent care, you can either walk in or make an appointment ahead of time. You can visit our urgent care or walk-in medical clinics near you during operating hours. We're open seven days a week and closed only if NYS declares an emergency.

Before booking your appointment please note:

Ensure that your insurance benefits include urgent care or contact us to confirm if your individual/group insurance plan is eligible for use. Please dial 911 immediately if your medical problem appears to be life-threatening.

FAQ

How do you test magnesium levels?

Magnesium levels can be tested using a blood test. To do a total serum magnesium test, a healthcare worker will draw blood from a vein in your arm and send it to the laboratory for analysis.

How will you know if your magnesium is low?

The common symptoms of low magnesium levels are appetite loss, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, shaking, muscle spasms, pins and needles, sleepiness, weakness, and hyperexcitability.

What are the symptoms of high magnesium levels?

The usual symptoms of high magnesium levels are nausea, vomiting, very low blood pressure (hypotension), flushing, headache, and neurological disorders.

Who is most at risk for magnesium deficiency?

Women require 320 mg of magnesium daily while men require 420mg. Those who are at most risk of magnesium deficiency are older individuals because their bodies are less capable of absorbing magnesium but the kidneys excrete more of it.

Should I make an appointment for urgent care?

Not necessarily. Most urgent cares accept walk-in patients. But if you want shorter wait times, you can book an appointment through phone or online.

What do magnesium levels indicate?

High magnesium levels are often associated with kidney disease. Low magnesium levels, on the other hand, could be a sign of diabetes, malnourishment, digestive problems, or chronic alcoholism. Low magnesium levels in pregnant women is associated with preeclampsia.

Does insurance plan cover all urgent care services?

Most urgent care services are covered by insurance. Please contact your insurance plan provider directly for specific questions related to your coverage, deductible, & plan.

Can I go to urgent care without insurance?

Yes. If you need urgent care and you have no insurance, we offer affordable rates for all health care services we offer.

The staff and the doctors were all very kind and caring. I was very worried about my child’s health. I appreciate your clinic being open on Saturdays. This saved us a trip to the ER, which can be scary for a child. Thank you again!

My daughter came in with stomach pain, and your doctor was able to diagnose that she probably had appendicitis. I took her to the emergency room, and she did have to have her appendix removed. Thank you so much for your help.

My visits have been fantastic both times I’ve gone. The woman at the front desk was courteous and professional, and prompt. The nurse was excellent. Same treatment as the front desk and the smoothest phlebotomist going. The doctor was great, calm, thorough, polite, and knowledgeable. I wish he were my GP. Overall? 11 out of 10.
