Get a COVID-19 pcr test for travel

Nao Medical offers 4-hour PCR tests for those who are traveling. However it’s important to understand that no one single test is available that will meet each requirement for all travel guidelines.

Please check with both the airline and the destination you plan on visiting before your trip to see what test they will accept, how quickly you will need to present your test results, and what type of documents will be required.

This is why getting a fast COVID-19 PCR test from Nao Medical before you travel is recommended in order to ensure you can travel safely and without any issues.

What is a COVID-19 RT-PCR NAAT test?

The RT-PCR test is a polymerase chain reaction type of NAAT test (or Nucleic Acid Amplification Test). It can detect RNA from the SARS-COV-2 virus that causes COVID-19. This is different from the 15-minute rapid antigen test and the COVID-19 antibody test. Those check for antigens and antibodies against the spike protein of the virus respectively.

The test itself can provide results in as little as 4 hours and is not FDA approved, but has been granted EUA (or Emergency Use Authorization).

COVID-19 PCR test must come from a CLIA Certified laboratory. Luckily, Nao Medical has partnered with CLIA certified labs and can provide a CLIA certificate To learn more about antibody tests, you can check the department of health website. To get tested, contact us to schedule an appointment.

FAQ

How accurate are COVID-19 PCR tests?

COVID-19 PCR tests are accurate and are considered the gold standard for COVID testing. This type of test is more sensitive and is mostly processed by health professionals in a laboratory.

Where can I get a COVID-19 PCR test for travel?

If you plan on traveling soon, you can get a 4-hour PCR test in New York City at any of Nao Medical locations.

What’s the difference between the standard COVID-19 PCR test and the COVID-19 RT-PCR test?

Both the standard PCR test and RT-PCR test involve taking nasal swab samples. However, the RT-PCR test checks for RNA from the virus that causes COVID-19 and can produce results in a quicker amount of time (as little as 4-hours).

The standard test is considered more accurate, but you might have to wait 2-4 business days for your results, which might not be feasible if you’re traveling soon and need a negative result quickly.

Does my insurance cover the COVID-19 RT-PCR NAAT test?

At Nao Medical, we accept most major insurance plans, but in order to know if your plan covers the test, we would need to run your insurance and this can only be done at the beginning of your visit.

If you would like to know ahead of time, please call the number on the back of your insurance card so a representative may let you know which coronavirus test is covered by your insurance plan.

My daughter came in with stomach pain, and your doctor was able to diagnose that she probably had appendicitis. I took her to the emergency room, and she did have to have her appendix removed. Thank you so much for your help.

I’ve been to Nao Medical, I think, three times, and their staff is delightful. If you are in dire pain, they take you in as soon as possible, if not sooner. The offices and exam rooms are spotless. All of the medical staff is very knowledgeable, patient, and understanding. I highly recommend it.

The staff and the doctors were all very kind and caring. I was very worried about my child’s health. I appreciate your clinic being open on Saturdays. This saved us a trip to the ER, which can be scary for a child. Thank you again!

My visits have been fantastic both times I’ve gone. The woman at the front desk was courteous and professional, and prompt. The nurse was excellent. Same treatment as the front desk and the smoothest phlebotomist going. The doctor was great, calm, thorough, polite, and knowledgeable. I wish he were my GP. Overall? 11 out of 10.
